MCLD advocates on behalf of deaf and hard-of-hearing persons to ensure their legal rights are protected. Advocacy efforts focus on negotiation and mediation activities seeking to resolve disputes without resorting to litigation. Examples where advocacy may be particularly effective include advocating for a deaf person’s right to a sign language interpreter when such rights are clearly spelled out in existing law.
