I am Deaf or Hard of Hearing
If you are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, MCLD has services that you can take advantage of.
We can provide you with information about:
- your rights under state and federal laws
- your rights as an employee
- your rights in federal assisted housing
- how to file a complaint under the EEOC, DOJ or state agency if your rights have been violated or if you have been discriminated against
- the courts and how to file cases on your own (pro se)
We can advocate for you if:
- your doctor refuses to provide an interpreter, or other accommodation, for you
- the court (state of federal) refuses to provide an interpreter, or other accommodation, for you
- you are being discriminated against at work, or any employment situation
- you are in any situation where you feel that an accommodation is not going to be provided for you OR if an accommodation is going to be provided for you, but you are being charged for the cost.
We can refer you to an attorney if:
- you want to write a will or need a power of attorney
- you are buying or selling a house
- you need a divorce, a custody arrangement or any family law issue
- you need assistance with your immigration status
- you have a civil or criminal case
- you wish to file bankruptcy
- you have housing or landlord/tenant issues
- you are a parent and you need Special Education assistance for your child with a disability
- and more

If you need assistance in explaining your rights under state and federal laws, you can order an MCLD “Pocket Card”. To order your card, please fill out a Pocket Card Form and mail it with your payment to MCLD.
