Burundi Coordinator: Teddy Hervé NKURUNZIZA

What motivates Teddy most about community-led development is seeing the people of Burundi realize that they already have the resources and capabilities they need to transform their daily lives. In Burundi, where challenges are numerous, he deeply believes that sustainable solutions arise when the community unites, reflects, and acts together.

Teddy shares, “I dream of seeing every member of my community awaken these superpowers in order to transform their lives and the lives of others. It is this dream that drives me to leave my home, to spend several days in the mountains with communities, to accompany them, to give them confidence in themselves and in their ability to take action.”

What I enjoy most about my role as MCLD coordinator is being able to work directly with our Burundian communities to help them become actors in their own development. I love seeing group members take initiative, think together, and find solutions to their daily challenges. My role allows me to facilitate these processes, build relationships between communities and partners, and see the positive impact of our work on people’s lives. It’s motivating to know that every small step forward helps strengthen autonomy, solidarity, and hope within our communities.

MCLD is a tool for transformation where communities take charge of their own development. It is a space that strengthens autonomy, solidarity, and collective responsibility, while enabling lasting change in Burundi. It also offers an alternative to the corrupt system that ruins efforts and keeps a large part of the population in poverty.
