Local Climate Action

MCLD has been taking action to ensure local organizations have a voice in global decision-making spaces. As part of our 2026-2029 focus on ecological solidarity and our demystifying multilateralism series, we’re organizing around the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31) and exploring local-to-global action our members are taking on the climate crisis.

We kicked off the conversation on May 27, 2026, with Tetet Lauron (Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung), unpacking the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and introducing how it works.

Building on our May 2026 introduction to COP31, a second event in June highlighted how local communities are already driving meaningful solutions to the climate crisis. Participants from Brazil, Cameroon, Colombia, Kenya, Malawi, and Sri Lanka shared innovative approaches to reforestation, river restoration, environmental education for children, and other locally driven initiatives that are strengthening communities while protecting the planet.
