First Cohort of School for Devolution and CLD Graduates Today in Makueni

Today November 16, 2023, 35 officials from Makueni County graduated with a certificate in Community-Led Development at a ceremony graced by the County’s leadership led by Her Excellency Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili alongside MCLD Founder Dr. John Coonrod and a host of civil society groups.

This inaugural cohort, comprised of Ward Development Officers, kicked off their training sessions in March this year and have undergone the 16-week CLD certificate course. The School’s curriculum comprises modules on the SDGs, community-based planning, gender equity, resource mobilization, community wealth-building, disaster preparedness, citizen-led governance, data for the people, and social accountability.  The modules were delivered by proximate leaders and experts from Kenya through collaboration with development professionals from MCLD.

Launched on March 16, 2023, the School uses a participatory Learning-by-Doing methodology, building on the existing knowledge, wisdom and expertise of participants through discussion, small group work, and a plethora of collaborative learning techniques.
