On December 2nd, MCLD Latin America & The Caribbean hosted its third session of 2025 with guest speakers. In May we hosted the session with Oswaldo Alvizar Bañuelos from Global Giving Latin America, in July we hosted a session with Felipe Bogotá Rodríguez from Territoria, Colombia and now it was time to introduce Global Changemakers to our members.
Global Changemakers is an international youth organisation and global pioneer in supporting youth-led sustainable development. Their mission is to empower and support youth to build inclusive, equitable, and sustainable communities. And they do this by providing skills development, capacity building, mentoring, and grants. They have a Youth Summit, a changemakers school and fellowship programme and they provide training in many relevant areas to empower youth leadership- that go from skills for proposal writing to sex and reproductive health.
In this opportunity, we had the joy to welcome Eric Ortega, from Global Changemakers Latin America, to guide us through this amazing network and initiative. It was a fantastic meeting where not just members from Latin America and The Caribbean joined, but also members of the Youth Task Force from Malawi. ¡It was the first time our region was offering a space like this to members from other regions!
The session included a conversation about how young people are the key to success for the Sustainable Development Goals, yet donor funding rarely goes to young people and youth-led projects. Even when funding may be available, support and resources to develop the skills and capacity of these young leaders are often missing. Global Changemakers works to fill this gap offering a lot of opportunities for people of all ages and all types of organizations but most specifically for young people.
We are happy to say that Global Changemakers offers funding and other opportunities for the youth and that we will be helping out to disseminate those in the future, for our members to keep in the loop.
