Pueblos indígenas recuperan las prácticas de las milpas resilientes con la naturaleza y la humanidad

La Fundación para el Desarrollo de la Cultura Indígena los pasos del Jaguar es una organización que nace con el propósito de revalorizar los conocimientos ancestrales de la cultura Náhuat , generando proyectos encaminados a estimular un desarrollo desde adentro, es decir, desde los conocimientos y sabiduría de las comunidades, fortaleciendo y reconstruyendo la dimensión espiritual, social y material de la vida cotidiana de los pueblos originarios de Cushcatan, que en la actualidad se le conoce como El Salvador.
Los Pasos del Jaguar (LPJ) trabaja para el desarrollo de la Cultura indígena viene promoviendo desde el 2019 en un contexto de crisis sanitaria por el COVID 19 y crisis climática una serie de iniciativas con comunidades indígenas del occidente de El Salvador, encaminadas a fortalecer y restaurar sistemas productivos agrícolas locales desde la perspectiva ancestral por medio de la recuperación de los sistemas productivos de las milpas, como medios de vida y garantía de subsistencia. Junto a estas acciones se busca fortalecer la cultura indígena, los idiomas indígenas y la salud integral con plantas sagradas y sanación espiritual y ceremonial. Estas acciones permitieron que comunidades del Municipio de Izalco, Santo Domingo de Guzmán y Nahuizalco pudieran tener soporte sanitario con prácticas ancestrales a partir de su propia cultura y garantizar la soberanía alimentaria recuperando cultivos de maíz, frijol y ayote en sus milpas.
Desde esta iniciativa se logró fomentar la cultura, recuperar semillas nativas y garantizar la soberanía alimentaria de las comunidades indígenas del corredor nahuat en el occidente de El Salvador.
Indigenous peoples are reviving the practices of milpa farming that are resilient in the face of both nature and humanity

The Foundation for the Development of Indigenous Culture ‘In the Footsteps of the Jaguar’ is an organisation established to revive the ancestral knowledge of the Nahuatl culture, by creating projects designed to foster development from within, that is to say, from the knowledge and wisdom of the communities, thereby strengthening and rebuilding the spiritual, social and material dimensions of daily life amongst the indigenous peoples of Cushcatan, now known as El Salvador.
‘In the Footsteps of the Jaguar’ (LPJ for its acronym in Spanish) works to promote the development of indigenous culture. Since 2019, against a backdrop of the COVID-19 health crisis and the climate crisis, it has been promoting a series of initiatives with indigenous communities in western El Salvador, aimed at strengthening and restoring local agricultural production systems from an ancestral perspective through the revival of milpa farming systems, as a means of livelihood and a guarantee of subsistence. Alongside these actions, the organisation seeks to strengthen indigenous culture, indigenous languages and holistic health through sacred plants and spiritual and ceremonial healing. These initiatives have enabled communities in the municipalities of Izalco, Santo Domingo de Guzmán and Nahuizalco to access healthcare based on ancestral practices rooted in their own culture, whilst ensuring food sovereignty by reviving the cultivation of maize, beans and squash in their milpas.
Through this initiative, it was possible to promote culture, recover native seeds and ensure food sovereignty for the indigenous communities of the Nahuat corridor in western El Salvador.
