We strengthen the practice of community-led development and strong, accountable local governance through community organizing and mobilizing, intentional (un)learning, and co-creation of tools and practices.
MCLD is committed to mutual capacity strengthening in several forms. Our learning platforms like the (Un)Learning Labs, our research tools, and our working groups are several examples.

Trainings on CLD
We know the task of transforming systems and the way we work is not easy. There are many questions ranging from “What does it mean?” to “How does this apply to my work?” That’s why MCLD offers multiple trainings on various aspects of community-led development, community-led monitoring, evaluation and learning, decolonizing systems and participation, including our very popular two-day training on the Participatory CLD Assessment Tool.
If you are interested in organizing a training for your organization, grantees or partners, please reach out to us at info@mcld.org.
Ongoing Initiatives
Capacity Strengthening on CLD
Co-created, multilingual trainings, training of trainers and (un)learning labs on community-led development, participation, centering local knowledge, decolonizing your organization, and community-led monitoring, evaluation and learning. A government recognised School for Devolution and CLD in Kenya.
Collective Action Accelerator
Supporting a wide range of collective action projects by MCLD National Associations. From tackling election violence and gender-based violence, to fighting malnutrition and vaccine hesitancy, our National Associations continue to showcase the power of the collective.
ACT (Active Citizenry, Thriving Democracy) Now
Under the ACT Now Initiative, we strengthen the government-citizen compact with a two pronged approach: our members organize partnerships, trainings, activities and forums at village, municipal, and district levels to i) support local governments to become responsive to their citizens, and ii) enable communities to collaborate with their elected governments to realize their own visions.
