About MCLD Sierra Leone
MCLD launched in Sierra Leone in 2021. At MCLD-SL, our broader vision is for every community in Sierra Leone to have the resources, skills, knowledge, autonomy and equitable partnerships to achieve their own goals and visions. Inclusion and the power of human connection shape not just what we do, but how we do it. We work in a collaborative, participatory way, bringing together a wide range of voices to imagine (and re-imagine) solutions, drive advocacy, take positives action, and keep learning together.
Current Initiatives
In 2024, the MCLD Sierra Leone National Association made significant strides in its growth and impact. Key achievements include registration with Corporate Affairs Sierra Leone and the development of a five-year strategic plan, ready for launch. The NA marked important international events, including Zero FGM Tolerance Day, International Youth Day, and the 16 Days of Activism. MCLD Sierra Leone also participated in a regional capacity-strengthening workshop on the Participatory CLD assessment tool and conducted three training sessions on CLD for local partners.
2021: MCLD Sierra Leone held our first chapter formation meeting on August 5th, 2021.
The participating organizations included:

2025-2029 Strategic Plan
The world is going through big changes, and at the Movement for Community-Led Development (MCLD), we believe now is the time to shape a new way forward. A world where everyone has a say in the decisions that impact their lives. That’s the heart of our 2025–2029 Strategic Plan: building a future led by communities themselves.
Developed through the collective work of our members, this strategic plan outlines a pathway to not just imagine the current system, but to actively build towards transforming the current system constructively over the next four years. We will do this through four key pillars: CLD Resources, Experience Sharing and Practice, Policy Advocacy and Civic Education, Partnerships, and Resources Mobilization.
MCLD Sierra Leone has gone through a deep, inclusive and participatory planning process to figure out what’s most needed in today’s changing world. Our priorities reflect that process: challenging power imbalances, supporting strong local leadership, protecting civic space, building global connections, and making our movement more resilient.
