The Togo Chapter of the Movement for Community-led Development was launched on April 30, 2019. The launch was timely, as the country held its first elections of Commune Councils in late June. The chapter has been focusing on developing mutual accountability between the new local commune officials and the communities they serve.
Update on Recent Actions: Conversations continue with the plan on convening an online meeting to begin to craft a regional approach, which has potential unique to West Africa. Possible initial partners include Helen Keller International, CARE, Plan Int’l, ECOWAS. August 3, 2020
The meeting followed consultations with the Ministry of Community Development, which has facilitated the formations of more than 3,000 village development committees.
