Steve Ogutu is the MCLD Kenya Executive Director and East Africa Coordinator. In this role, he facilitates a range of activities with MCLD members, including on project design, fundraising, policy influence, partnership building, and capacity building. He is also Co-lead for the School for Devolution and Community-Led Development (CLD), a joint initiative between MCLD and County Government of Makueni to strengthen devolution and CLD practice in Kenya.
Steve first became involved with MCLD in 2019 while working with Global Communities, an INGO and a member of the Movement. During this time, he worked with other partners to launch the Kenya Chapter. He formally joined MCLD in 2021, first as its Kenya Coordinator. Before this, Steve led strategic communication efforts for various USAID, Bill & Melinda Gates and Hewlett Foundation-funded development projects in Sub-Saharan Africa. He holds an MA in Development Communications from the University of Nairobi.
Steve was drawn to MCLD because of his shared passion for championing genuine locally-led development that works for all. He also occasionally appears on Radio France International, Voice of America, BBC and other regional media to discuss development issues in Africa.
